Chilling cockpit audio has captured the last moments inside a private jet before it crashed into a mobile home park near Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, killing at least nine.
The female pilot's terrified voice can be heard in the seconds before the crash telling air traffic control (ATC) that the plane was "going to crash into the ground", followed by a scream. She said: "We're descending 8,000. Mayday. Mayday. We're descending 10,000ft per minute."
In a further contact with ATC just seconds later, she is heard saying: "Declaring emergency. We are in an overspeed condition descending 20,000ft per minute. We're going to crash into the ground."
The woman then tells ATC "we're descending at 22,000ft". "Look outside. We're going to die. Holy f***, we're out of time," were her last words.
Just a minute before the horrifying crash, the pilot is heard telling ATC of "moderate turbulence". She explained the outside temperature was -47C. "We're managing the ice but it is moderate turbulence," she says, with ATC chillingly telling her to expect "better rides ahead".
The pilot also reported rain. Nine people were on board the Learjet 60, when it crashed just six miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate at around 12.50pm local time (5.50pm GMT) on Sunday.
The aircraft came down in a residential area in Greenacres, Palm Beach County. The Learjet 60 is a mid-size business jet that typically carries six to seven passengers and two crew members. Authorities did not immediately confirm what caused the aircraft to go down, nor the names of those on board.
Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis said the plane crash was "cataclysmic". He said: "It looked like a missile going down and left a big crater on the side of the road."
The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. It disappeared from flight-tracking websites after plunging around 27,000ft in the space of a minute.
It remains unclear who was on board. The jet appeared to narrowly miss nearby homes before crashing near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North.
The jet was seen diving nose-first into the road before exploding into a massive ball of fire, with flames blazing out of the crater and black smoke rising from the wreckage. The aircraft reportedly hit the ground at an estimated speed of 595km/h.
Power lines and a nearby tree also appear to have been brought down. Locals milled around in shock. They likened the sound of the crash to that of a missile.
All nine people on board were killed, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, describing the crash as a "horrific tragedy" in a post on X. It is unclear whether any homes were damaged by the fire or whether anyone on the ground was injured.
