Former Strictly Come Dancing star Will Mellor said he was stunned to see Prince William in such an unexpected setting, during a night out that ultimately ended badly
Prince William once stepped in to break up a fight that happened in his presence, according to actor Will Mellor. The Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps star recalled being invited to a club by a friend, although he was initially apprehensive to go as he was on crutches and taking medication at the time.
However, not wanting to miss out, Will agreed to go along, only to find himself stunned when he spotted Prince William in the toilets.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, he explained: "I was in there having a good night and Prince William was in there, he just happened to be in there and I went for a wee and Prince William was stood next to me.
"And he went, 'All right Will' and I went, 'Ooh, he knows my name', it was like madness. Two Pints fan.
"Anyway, the night went on and I had a few more drinks and I went, 'I'm going on the dance floor on me crutches', I was throwing a few shapes," the 50-year-old added.
What followed, according to the actor, was that he found himself in a spot of bother with a group of partygoers.
"And there were quite a few, what I call, upper class posh people in there all dancing and they thought it was funny to shoulder barge me off my crutches and laughing at me basically," he continued.
"And I didn't find that funny, so once I got up, I dived on this lad and he's on the floor and I'm fighting with this lad on the floor, and then I've got these hands on my shoulders picking me up and I'm sort of doing what I'm doing, and then I hear this person go, 'Leave it Will, he's not worth it' and it was Prince William!".
The actor said while trying to make the fight stop, the Prince had his hands on his shoulders – an image his friend told him he would never forget.
"He was looking at me in the eye going, 'Leave it Will he's not worth it' and I'm going, 'He's knocked me off my crutches!' And I'm going mad."
The former Strictly Come Dancing star said Prince William's security team then intervened and removed the two men involved in the fight.
"And then I'm going, 'Tell them William, it's not my fault! They pushed me over'. Anyway, they're carrying me out and I'm still shouting, 'William, tell them it wasn't my fault' and he's going, 'It's all right don't worry about it'."
He went on to recall: "The funny thing is I go home and my mate calls me and goes, I'll never forget seeing Prince William with his hands on your shoulders going, 'Leave it Will, he's not worth it. Like, he was one of your mates'."
