Christa Pike rushed to hospital AGAIN just days after prison return Since the failed execution of death row inmate Christa Pike on October 30 she has returned to hospital at least once she has revealed in a bombshell personal declaration Christa Pike has revealed she has been admitted to hospital at least once since returning to prison after her botched execution. In October Pike, 50, survived two massive doses of pentobarbital after the US state of Tennessee attempted to execute her for the brutal 1995 murder of classmate Colleen Slemmer. The lethal drugs failed to kill her, instead leaving her arms burned and blistered. According to 911 dispatch recordings, it took 31 minutes for prison officials to confirm that a request for emergency medical assistance was legitimate after confusion between prison staff and first responders delayed the response. Following the botched execution, Pike spent days unconscious and breathing through a ventilator in intensive care. Doctors feared she was brain-dead. But in a twist that shocked medics, she defied all odds to wake up and started talking and was discharged from a Nashville hospital on October 9. Now, in a personal declaration obtained by PEOPLE Pike has revealed she has already “returned to the hospital emergency room once” in her declaration, “but was not readmitted for inpatient care.” She says she is struggling to adjust to life in prison and her greatest concern is for her health and well-being. She claims that she is being forced to carry out tasks that put her at a “high risk of infection and further injury,” such as cleaning a “roach-infested shower.” Pike writes in her declaration that while she does want to rejoin the prison population, she cannot return to the pod she was previously housed in prior to her botched execution. “This pod houses inmates with significant histories of assaults and disciplinary problems. In my two years living in this pod after entering into the settlement, I witnessed multiple assaults by close custody inmates of other inmates and guards, multiple individuals who were undergoing acute psychological breakdowns, and significant danger,” Pike explains. Pike then goes on to say that given her “current physical condition,” it would be dangerous to house her in that pod. “I could not defend myself or get away if another inmate attacked me,” Pike writes. “I am afraid that I will be seriously hurt if I am moved to that pod while I am this weak.” Instead, Pike says she would just like to be part of “group meals, group classes, lobby time, group religious services, work assignments, or shared recreation.” As it stands, she spends all of her time alone in the infirmary save for meetings she has with her legal team. The judge in the case has given the defendants until Nov. 4 to respond to Pike’s motion. It comes after attorneys representing Tennessee death-row inmates have filed a 2025 deposition from a prison warden who testified that execution teams did not practice inserting IV lines during training sessions. According to the court filing, the warden said the Tennessee Department of Correction commissioner directed that IV lines not be inserted during practices. The warden also testified that the team did not practice or prepare for emergencies, reports WSMV. What happens to Pike now? Governor Bill Lee addressed whether Pike would still face the death penalty weeks after her failed execution. He said: "As it related to a particular individual like Christa Pike and her crime, she's still incarcerated under the laws of the State of Tennessee. "I suspect her sentence will be the same as before unless determined otherwise by the courts," WSMV News reports. Lee has since postponed the state’s only other scheduled execution this year and ordered a review of why the execution failed.
