Lamborghini driver who tried to blame friend killed in 143mph crash jailed for 10 years Mohammed Shaan Hussain, 20, died after Humaira Batool hit barrier while speeding on M62 - Bookmark Become an Independent member to bookmark this article Already a member? Log in A woman has been jailed for 10 years for causing the death of a friend when she crashed a Lamborghini while driving at up to 143mph in wet weather in the dark. Humaira Batool hit a barrier as she sped on the M62, in West Yorkshire, causing it to flip over and burst into flames. Her passenger, Mohammed Shaan Hussain, 20, suffered fatal injuries. His mother, Nasreen Akhtar, said he was kind and careful, a “beloved son and cherished brother, a loyal friend and light in all our lives” and “loved beyond measure”. During the trial, the court heard Batool, 26, reached speeds of up to 143mph after she had taken a turn at driving the hired Lamborghini Urus, which she crashed at 4.20am on 21 December 2022. Passing sentence, Judge Ray Singh blamed Batool’s “conscious decision to drive at extraordinary speed” in conditions that made such driving especially dangerous. Batool, who was 22 at the time of the crash, tried to blame Hussain, saying he had reached over and touched something, causing the car to surge, but the jury rejected her claim. A full investigation into the crash led to Batool being arrested and charged in January 2024 with causing death by dangerous driving. She was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving in September. In a victim statement read to the court, Ms Akhtar said: “Every day has been a struggle. “What has made this unbearable pain even worse is the impact of trying to mourn our son when we have had to listen to others try to tarnish him. “My son was the heartbeat of this home. To lose him suddenly in this horror crash has broken us in ways we cannot put into words. “He was just 20 years old — with his whole life ahead of him, dreams in his heart, and so much love to give. He was a beloved son, a cherished brother, a loyal friend, and a light in all our lives.” Mr Hussain’s brother, Mohammed Souhail Hussain, said his brother always put other people first, adding: “Since losing Shaan, our lives have been incredibly difficult. His absence is not something that has become easier with time. It is something we are reminded of every single day.” Batool was sentenced to 10 years in prison and banned from driving for 10 years. Det Insp Paul Conroy of the major collision enquiry team, welcomed the sentencing, saying Batool’s actions caused the death of a young man in the prime of his life, devastating his family and leaving them facing a lifetime of loss. “When any of us get behind the wheel we need to accept the responsibility of controlling a machine which can cause devastation if not handled responsibly,” he said. "This especially applies when handling a car of the nature Batool drove that evening. Her driving put herself and anyone near her on the motorway at risk and it sadly resulted in the tragedy we have seen in this case.”
