A mum is suspected of killing her new born baby with the body found at a homeless shelter in Germany.
The 39-year-old woman was arrested following the discovery of the baby on Sunday at the accommodation on Am Bahnhof street in Calau, Brandenburg, and she remains in custody.
A spokesperson for the Cottbus public prosecutor's office reportedly said: "It appears to be a violent crime" but no details were given about the nature of the injuries and how they came about.
It is understood that the arrested woman is the mother of the dead child and that the baby died shortly after being born. Local media has reported that the baby was found by another resident at the homeless shelter.
Police have been seen this week at the shelter including a forensic team on Wednesday with investigators searching a courtyard and they appeared to hone in on an outbuilding. Dustbins were also examined and photographed by detectives, reported Bild.
The investigation is ongoing and the woman is being held in custody at Luckau-Duben.
It comes after a child was found dead in a hotel room in Germany, with police treating the death as a suspected homicide.
Emergency services were called to a hotel on Arnulfstrasse in Munich, the capital of the German state of Bavaria, at around 9.40am local time (8.40am GMT) on Wednesday after a hotel employee discovered a child's body. German media have reported that the child was 12 years old.
A woman, who is reported to be the child's mother, was found seriously injured at the scene. The hotel has been identified by German media as the Eden Hotel Wolff.
German newspaper Bild is reporting that investigators suspect the woman, who is said to be a Ukrainian national, killed her child before attempting to take her own life.
The four-star hotel, which was founded in 1890, is located directly opposite Munich Central Station. It has more than 200 rooms, as well as an on-site restaurant and wellness facilities. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, with police reviewing footage from the hotel's CCTV cameras.
