Iran burns poster of Donald Trump and allies as Tehran celebrates his midterms defeat Tehran taunted the US president over his midterms defeat as Republicans took to social media to acknowledged the role the war in Iran played in their defeat. Iranians have launched a scathing attack on US and Israeli leadership as they remembered a horrific day for Americans in the Middle East. Crowds gathered in Tehran to sing and wave Iranian flags while they watched a massive poster of those leading the war against their country burn. The poster portrayed US President Donald Trump, his Vice-President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and ally Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It burned on Wednesday night as Iran remembered student takeover of the US embassy in Tehran during the 1979 Islamic revolution. The burning of the poster coincided with a bitter defeat for Republicans in the US midterm elections, in part due to Mr Trump's war in Iran. Tehran taunted the US president over his midterms defeat. Following the loss, Vice President Vance took to social media to discuss what he believed were the four reasons a "blue tsunami" occurred in Tuesday's midterms. He said, according to a pollster, the top four reasons were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change the US relationship to Israel. Donald Trump Jr, President Trump's oldest son, agreed with the vice president in a lengthy social media post that blamed Republicans' losses in the midterm elections on the Iran war, raising eyebrows about the administration's stance on the ongoing conflict. Iran's judiciary chief, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi, echoed Iranian sentiment in a post on X. He said: "Trump failed both in war and in politics. We will certainly impose even more defeats upon him." In addition to burning the poster, demonstrators marched through central Tehran, burning US and Israeli flags and chanting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel". The poster burning took place during a state-organised rally commemorating the student takeover of the US embassy in Tehran during the 1979 Islamic revolution when radical students stormed the embassy and held 52 Americans hostage there for 444 days. The crisis cemented the rupture between Tehran and Washington, which have had no formal diplomatic relations since. Tehran has utilised the midterm results to declare that voters rejected the war launched by Mr Trump, but worry remains that the US could still carry out strikes. Two senior Iranian sources told Reuters that while Iranian leaders welcomed the Democrats' victory, Tehran was concerned that Mr Trump could seek to compensate for it with a military strike. It remained on high alert.
