A Ferrari bought by Jeremy Clarkson after he declared it the "greatest car in the world, ever" could fetch a staggering £250,000 at auction.
The 1996 F355 GTS, later given away by the former Top Gear host as a competition prize, is set to go under the hammer alongside three cars from the presenter's current collection. A 1982 Lancia Montecarlo Spider, 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 and 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V, offered without reserve, were all retained by Clarkson, 66, after he drove them in The Grand Tour TV show.
The Ferrari F355, estimated at £200,000- £250,000, has a six-speed manual gearbox, rare factory sports seats and approximately 15,200 miles from new.
The car regularly featured in his Sunday Times columns, including when he retook, and failed, his driving test in May 1999. He covered around 6,000 miles before giving it away as a reader prize.
The lot number 186 description for the vehicle Iconic Auctioneers said: "Ordered new by Jeremy Clarkson after declaring the F355 'the greatest car in the world; ever'. A collector-quality example of one of the finest analogue Ferraris ever made, ticking all the right boxes.
"Just 15,200 miles from new, six-speed manual gearbox, presenting extremely well and fitted with the exceptionally rare factory sports seats." The cars form part of Iconic Auctioneers' sale weekend, with more than 600 cars and motorcycles worth over £16m set to feature at the NEC, Birmingham, on November 14 and 15.
Harry Fox-Edwards, Car Specialist at Iconic Auctioneers, said: "Many enthusiasts will remember Jeremy's enthusiasm for the F355, and this is the car he bought for himself. Finding cars with character and a history worth telling is a great part of what we do, whether that's a Ferrari of this calibre or someone's first classic."
The car is a revised Ferrari 348 and was produced from May 1994 to 1999. It was ultimately succeeded by the Ferrari 360. Used Ferrari F355 1996 are typically priced between £75,000 to upward of £135,000 on online used car marketplaces seen by the Mirror.
