Multimillionaire friend of Sam Wood offered surety in his bail application, court documents show A friend of Sam Wood who offered up the million-dollar surety in his bail application has known him since he was a teenager and is a multimillionaire. The former Bachelor is charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation, allegedly committed against his wife Snezana Wood on the Sunshine Coast. Last week he was denied bail in the Supreme Court after an earlier failed attempt for release. Several people close to Mr Wood, including his father Andrew Wood, submitted affidavits to the court. In his affidavit, his father said he has "a very close relationship" with his son and the pair speak frequently, often every fortnight. His father said, if granted bail, Mr Wood could live in a property in Tasmania, where no one else lives. "The house has internet access and mobile phone coverage, so Sam can work from home and also stay in touch with his legal team," his father said in the affidavit. He added that if Mr Wood was granted bail elsewhere, he would be prepared to move and live with him for six months. The house in question is owned by a friend. In a separate affidavit, a person, whose name is legally restricted, confirmed they owned the house in Tasmania. The person said they have known Mr Wood for more than 20 years. The person makes clear they own the house in Tasmania outright and no one lives there. Alongside listing the home as a place Mr Wood could live, the person also offered $1 million in cash. The person also listed their superannuation, share portfolio and a car in the affidavit. "I understand that if Sam does not attend court when required, I may be ordered to pay," the person wrote. "No one, including Sam has offered to repay me, or agreed to repay me, if the surety is forfeited." Last Friday, Mr Wood unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Supreme Court, after an earlier failed attempt for release. On Monday his lawyers flagged their intention to appeal the decision and on Tuesday formally filed paperwork with the Court of Appeal (COA).
