Independent TV Showing now | News 01:04 Hegseth hits back at impeachment threat in defiant video message to US troops Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth angrily dismissed renewed efforts in the House to bring articles of impeachment against him as early as next week, calling them a “sham” and urging US troops to “ignore the noise”. In a video message, posted on Thursday (5 November), Hegseth described Republican Rep. Thomas Massie as a “disgruntled, defeated congressman” and accused him and Democrats of “political theatre”, likening the effort to Trump’s two impeachments. “Didn’t work against President Trump, and it won’t work with me,” he said. The push follows the Republicans’ midterm defeat. Asked about Hegseth’s increasingly precarious position at the Pentagon, Trump told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl he had “every intention” of keeping him. Rumors of a resignation remain unconfirmed.
