Fox News anchor Jesse Watters has suggested that Democratic midterms wins in deep-red Texas could mean “a Republican will never sniff the White House ever again” – unless the GOP win the state back.
On a historic night for Democrats, James Talarico stormed to victory over state attorney general Ken Paxton to claim the party’s first Senate seat in the Lone Star State since 1988 and Gina Hinojosa became the first Latina to take the governor’s mansion.
While President Donald Trump has refused to accept the blame for his party losing control of Congress and preferred to seek comfort in his construction projects in Washington, D.C., others on the right have engaged in some very public soul-searching – not least Vice President JD Vance, who said the Iran war cost the GOP victory.
Joining in the clamor for change was Watters, who headed up a segment on his solo Fox show late Thursday entitled “Midterms Wake-Up Call” with a demand for answers.
“We had a two-year window to dismantle the Democrat Party, shut down their illegal fundraising, whack Antifa, and put Tish James, [James] Comey, Fani [Willis], and her little lover boy behind bars, separate cells for those two,” the host complained, listing a series of Trump enemies.
“You think the left’s gonna take it easy on MAGA? They want it extinguished. They’re already talking about abolishing the Electoral College, impeaching the president, and executing Elon Musk.
“Democrat governors now control a majority of states where most of the population lives. They seize Texas and are on pace for the biggest midterm landslide since Watergate.
“Now, if Texas stays blue, a Republican will never sniff the White House ever again.”
Watters then ran an excerpt from a December 2024 interview with Texas Democrat Gene Wu, the new majority leader of the state House of Representatives, in which he said that the day the state’s minority communities “realize that they share the same oppressor” and join forces as a voting coalition is the day “we start winning.”
Putting a characteristically inflammatory spin on Wu’s remarks, Watters said: “They’re talking about uniting the minority races against whites. Texas Democrat politicians are declaring a political race war. And they could win, because Republicans nearly lost the white vote Tuesday.”
Continuing his howl of frustration, the host said: “I mean, Democrats haven’t won the white vote since 1964, Johnson-Goldwater.
“Let this sink in. Democrats are on the cusp of winning a majority of whites, Blacks, and Hispanics. Open borders is suicide.
“The Democrats are about to win a Senate seat in Mississippi. Black guy. That’s like Republicans winning Hawaii. And it’s not like the country just became liberal. The country just kind of became single.”
Watters later shared a clip from his monologue on X with the caption: “Republicans need an AUTOPSY REPORT after the MIDTERMS. The Trump coalition SHATTERED… and the GOP almost LOST WHITE VOTERS. YIKES! If Texas goes BLUE FOREVER, the GOP MAY NEVER WIN AGAIN.”
During an appearance earlier in the day on the Fox panel show The Five, Watters insisted Trump “can still stick the landing” when it comes to concluding the Iran war, adding: “Sometimes politics takes the backseat to war. You just got to finish the mission.”
More eccentrically, he launched into an off-topic rant about Hunter Biden – still a favorite conservative boogeyman – by comparing him unfavorably to Trump’s sons Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, whom, Watters said, “create value” by “doing things with minerals and drones and real estate,” unlike Joe Biden’s troubled son.
