Two men have been charged with the murder of a 'kind and talented' footballer who passed away days after a 'serious assault'.
Ezekiel Williams, 26, was allegedly attacked in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, in the early hours of Sunday, November 1. Thames Valley Police has now confirmed that Arman Uddin, 21, of Saxon Road, Luton, and Sameull Hussein, 28, of no fixed abode, have been charged with one count of murder each.
The pair have remained in police custody before appearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 6. A 30-year-old man, who was also from Luton, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, but has been released on conditional court bail as investigations continue.
Williams, who had signed for Hendon FC in September, died from his injuries on Monday, November 2. He had also played for Kettering Town, who described Williams as a 'talented, kind, and a truly inspirational individual' in a social media tribute after his death.
He passed away just over a week from scoring his first goal for his new team. After his death, Hendon released a statement which said: "We are stunned and heartbroken to announce the sudden and tragic passing of midfielder Ezekiel Williams aged 26.
"A humble, unassuming and generous individual with a razor-sharp wit, Eze joined the club in September and quickly established himself as a highly popular member of the dressing room and was beginning to carve a place for himself in midfield with a series of hard-working and selfless displays that summed him up as a person.
"Only 10 days ago, he scored his first goal for the club against Jersey Bulls. As a sign of respect, and to allow the players and management time to process this awful news, tomorrow's London Senior Cup tie with Woodford Town has been postponed."
The statement also concluded by saying: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Ezekiel’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him at this devastating time. He will be very sadly missed by all of us at Hendon Football Club."
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for anybody who would like to make a donation in Williams' memory. In the wake of Williams' death, Detective Inspector Rob Underhill confirmed there would be an increased police presence in the area.
In a statement, he said: "We are carrying out a thorough and extensive investigation to establish exactly what happened.
"We recognise this incident will cause concern within the local community. There will continue to be an increased police presence in and around The Hub and Milton Keynes city centre over the coming days.
"I would encourage anybody with concerns to speak with our officers."
