Millions could be eligible for the perk if they meet certain criteria. Most people in the UK (60%) have never switched their everyday current account. Other industry estimates suggest that roughly 40% to 50% of Brits have stayed with their first and only bank, while about 24% of UK adults report that they plan never to switch bank accounts, according to expert findings from KPMG. Those who stay loyal could be missing out on the incentives that most high street banks offer to draw business in from competitors. Those who have never switched could be in the best position to take advantage of deals like the £300 Barclays offer. The Barclays Current Account is offering one of the largest incentives to switch (as of November 6). Claiming the maximum reward may take some time and effort, but it could boost your bank account by up to £300. Most people will be able to sign up and take advantage of the switch offer, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. To open an account, people must be aged 18 or over, be UK residents and apply through the Barclays app. Once set up, customers are required to complete a full switch via the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) within 30 days, including at least three active Direct Debits. Applicants must deposit a minimum salary of £2,000 into the new account within 30 days of opening. Customers who held an open Barclays current account before October 1, 2026, or who are opening a joint account, will not be approved for the cash bonus. How will my reward be paid? You can get the first half of the reward (£150) paid into your new account within 28 working days after you meet all the qualifying criteria. The absolute latest date to open the account and immediately meet all qualifying criteria to be paid before Christmas is Thursday, November 19. The remaining £150 is paid out in £30 instalments as a "monthly engagement reward". The criteria are much simpler to complete for this, and most regular customers will manage this without realising: - Make at least 10 eligible debit card purchases using your Barclays debit card - Receive salary payments totalling at least £2,000 into the Barclays Bank Account - Have an active Barclays Account on the date we pay you your £30 Engagement Reward. The CASS bonus will show on your statement as ‘Switch Reward’. To start the switching process or learn more directly from Barclays, click here.
