Vomiting illness erupts on easyJet flight as alert issued to Edinburgh Airport Passengers on board the easyJet flight from Egypt to Scotland reportedly suffered high temperatures, nausea and severe vomiting, with one child developing an unexplained rash A mystery illness outbreak struck an easyJet flight from Egypt, with at least seven passengers falling ill mid-air and emergency teams alerted ahead of its arrival in Scotland. Cabin crew reported multiple people suffering from a sudden illness as the aircraft travelled from the Red Sea resort of Hurghada to Edinburgh on Tuesday, November 3. Flight U23320, operated by an Airbus A320neo, contacted air traffic control before landing. The affected passengers were said to be suffering from high temperatures, flu-like symptoms, nausea and severe vomiting. One child also reportedly developed an unexplained skin rash during the journey. Ground crews and medical personnel at Edinburgh Airport were alerted ahead of the aircraft's arrival on Tuesday evening, with the plane eventually touching down safely at 11:10pm. The cause of the illness was not immediately clear, with initial reports raising the possibility of food poisoning or a contagious infection, according to AirLive. The Mirror has contacted easyJet for comment. Tuesday's incident comes just two weeks after a similar outbreak on another easyJet service from Egypt to Scotland. On October 22, easyJet flight U23116 from Sharm el-Sheikh to Glasgow reported at least eight passengers experiencing severe vomiting simultaneously. The alarm was raised while the aircraft was travelling through Dutch airspace. According to reports from the cockpit, the pilots made contact with the easyJet Flight Operations Centre to flag up a rapidly developing medical emergency. The crew reportedly said that at least eight passengers were simultaneously suffering severe nausea and vomiting. The plane landed safely on Runway 23 at Glasgow Airport at around 2:45am BST. EasyJet said the incident may have been linked to food contamination consumed at a resort hotel prior to departure. A spokesperson said at the time: "A small number of customers reported feeling unwell on flight EZY3116 from Sharm el Sheikh to Glasgow on October 21, with some indicating that this may have been related to food consumed at their hotel prior to the flight. "The wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority. Our crew informed the flight deck as precaution only, no medical assistance was required and the flight landed normally."
