Donald Trump has asked the UFC's Dana White to become the White House press secretary.
This week has not been a good one for Trump. His Republican Party lost control of Congress in the midterm elections as the Democrats claimed both the House and the Senate. Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was then ousted and Stephen Miller, an architect of US immigration policy, replaced her.
Wiles is not the only recent staffing casualty. In October, press secretary Katie Zacharia was fired after just five days in the job. Now, her replacement has seemingly been drafted, but UFC CEO and longtime president White is the shock prospective successor.
Speaking on Truth Social, Trump said: "I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States.
"I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris [Harrison].

"We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
White has been the driving force behind the UFC since he persuaded childhood friends to purchase the struggling venture in 2001. He controls and negotiates fighter contracts and runs each event. When the UFC was bought for over $4billion (£2.9bn) in 2016, he stayed on as president.
However, he might have an entirely different kettle of fish to deal with if he assumes the role of press secretary. The position includes daily press briefings, policy explanations and crisis communications.
Trump and White have been allies for over two decades. The president allowed UFC 30 and UFC 31 to be staged at his Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 2001. White often credits Trump with taking a chance on him and the UFC when no one else would. The 57-year-old delivered speeches at three Republican National Conventions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
He said of Trump: "I know President Trump as a fighter. I'm in the tough guy business, and this guy is the toughest, most resilient I've seen in my life."
In June, an event titled UFC Freedom 250 took place on the White House South Lawn. It marked the first time in US history that a professional sporting event and cage fighting were staged on the grounds of a presidential residence.
This event marked the semiquincentennial anniversary of the United States and 4,300 guests were invited. Trump and White walked down a red, white and blue carpet as they made their entrance to a 12-jet military flyover.
In response to Trump's offer, White posted a photo to his Instagram of himself standing behind the White House press podium with the caption: "On to the next chapter." He also reposted Trump's plea.
