Republican Sen. Ron Johnson accuses Trump administration of corruption
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin), in a striking interview on Saturday, accused the Trump administration of corruption.
Johnson referenced recent claims made by Calley Means, a former Trump White House adviser who quit last month. On an episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast released Friday, Means accused Trump’s top aides and political strategists of catering to special interests, specifically naming individuals close to President Donald Trump who he alleged blocked policies popular within the Make America Healthy Again movement.
Johnson told Fox News on Saturday that Means laid out “in gory detail” concerning levels of corruption within government, including corruption “within the Trump administration.”
“This is how government operates on a bipartisan basis,” Johnson continued, claiming that it’s “happening throughout government agency after government agency, captured by the very … corporations that are regulated by government.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Speaking about Republican losses in the midterm elections, Johnson said his party’s supporters “were expecting us to drain the swamp, but it seems like the swamp won.”
The senator argued that Republicans “need to embrace the enduring principles of our founders, limited government” to win elections in 2028.
Johnson is gathering signatures to postpone Senate Republican leadership elections, telling Fox News that the conference “ought to have robust, robust, soul-searching discussions” in the wake of the midterms.
