Democrats weigh probes of Trump family, DOGE and Elon Musk, key lawmaker says President Donald Trump’s family members and business allies such as Elon Musk are likely to face scrutiny when Democrats take power in Congress in January, according to Rep. Robert Garcia (California), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. “This is the most corrupt family to ever be in the Oval Office, in the White House,” Garcia told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, could be asked to testify on Capitol Hill, Garcia said. “They should be expected to answer questions,” he said. “And this is the grift that is happening on the American public, as the Trumps are billions of dollars richer, the American public can’t pay the gas and the groceries.” Garcia said he was concerned about the lavish wedding celebration hosted by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev for Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina, in the Bahamas in May. After news of Kremlev’s contribution became public, the president said his son was repaying the money. Trump also defended the party, saying it was “common” for people to host wedding celebrations for friends. Garcia said he wanted to look into potential conflicts of interest involving Kushner, who has served as an unofficial diplomat in negotiations with Russia, Ukraine and countries in the Middle East. Democrats have long expressed concerns about the overlap between Kushner’s business interests and his government work. The White House has said that Kushner’s personal business activities are unrelated to his diplomatic engagements. Garcia said Democrats are interested in investigating Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, over the U.S. DOGE Service, the Musk-led task force that carried out massive federal job cuts.
