CATEKAPPA: An R Shiny Application for Design and Analysis of Consistency Tests Based on the Kappa Statistic for Categorical Responses

arXiv:2606.07062v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: The kappa statistic is the most widely used measure of inter-rater agreement for categorical data. Despite its popularity, applied researchers often encounter two major hurdles: (i) determining the sample size required to achieve a desired level of agreement with given power, and (ii) computing appropriate kappa coefficients with proper interpretation.

Wave instabilities in anisotropic regularized Kappa plasmas: New plasma dispersion functions and numerical validation

arXiv:2606.08331v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Plasmas in space and astrophysical environments are frequently found in (quasi-)stationary states not in thermal equilibrium, indicated by velocity distribution functions (VDFs) featuring nonthermal characteristics, such as Lorentzian high-energy tails and kinetic (temperature and strahl/beam) anisotropies. For decades, in-situ observations of electrons and ions in the solar corona, solar wind or planetary magnetospheres have been modelled...

Collision Resistance of Single-Layer Neural Nets

arXiv:2606.03807v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We initiate the study of the algorithmic complexity of finding collisions in single-layer binary neural networks. Given a random matrix $\mathbf{A} \in \mathbb{R}^{m\times n}$, an input $\mathbf{x} \in \{-1,1\}^n$ is mapped to a binary output vector $\varphi(\mathbf{A}\mathbf{x})\in \{-1,1\}^m$, where $\varphi$ is an activation function with constant behavior on $[\kappa, \infty)$ for some threshold $\kappa \geq 0$. We identify the threshold...

Efficient Parallel Algorithms for Hypergraph Matching

arXiv:2602.22976v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: We present efficient parallel algorithms for computing maximal matchings in hypergraphs. Our algorithm finds locally maximal edges in the hypergraph and adds them in parallel to the matching. In the CRCW PRAM models our algorithms achieve $O(\log{\log{\Delta}}\log{m})$ time with $O(\kappa\log {m})$ work w.h.p. where $m$ is the number of hyperedges, and $\kappa$ is the sum and $\Delta$ is the maximum of all vertex degrees.

Blow-ups of order types of positive density

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Order types are an equivalence relation between point configurations that capture their combinatorial and convexity properties. Let $P$ be a $\kappa$-colored sequence of $n \ge d+1$ points in general position in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Let $\rho$ be a $\kappa$-colored order type on $k \le d+1$ points that has positive density on $P$; that is, for some constant $\delta >0$, there are $\delta \cdot \binom{n}{k}$ $k$-point subsequences of $P$ that have the same order type...

Accelerated Decentralized Stochastic Gradient Descent for Strongly Convex Optimization

Announce Type: new Abstract: Decentralized stochastic optimization is a fundamental paradigm for large-scale learning over networks, where agents communicate only with their neighbors and no central coordinator is required. For strongly convex problems, communication efficiency is mainly determined by the condition number \(\kappa=L/\mu\) and the network spectral gap \(1-\beta\). Although deterministic decentralized methods can simultaneously achieve accelerated \(\sqrt{\kappa}\) and...

Meltwater transport and mixing layer growth near the ice--ocean interface

Announce Type: replace Abstract: Ice melting into saline water plays a fundamental role in the dynamics near the ice-ocean interface in polar oceans. The physics of ice melting involves a non-trivial interplay between thermodynamics at the interface, hydrodynamic transport in the bulk and the properties of the ambient ocean. The key control parameters are the density ratio $R_\rho$ proportional to the ambient ocean salinity and the Lewis number $Le = \kappa_T/\kappa_S$, which compares the...

On gapped repeats in a cyclic Fibonacci word

Combinatorics [Submitted on 1 Jun 2026] Title:On gapped repeats in a cyclic Fibonacci word View PDFAbstract:In this article, we consider the words with cyclic indices. For given $s$, we consider the pair $(\iota,\kappa)$ of indices such that the word of length $s$ from $\iota$ is equal to the word of length $s$ from $\kappa$. We give a characterization of such pairs for a cyclic Fibonacci word, and give the number of them.

Agreement Metrics for LLM-as-Judge Evaluation: What to Report and Why

arXiv:2606.00093v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Validating an LLM judge against human annotations usually means reporting several agreement statistics: accuracy, precision, recall, $F_1$, Cohen's $\kappa$, and one or more rank correlations. A survey of 24 recent LLM-as-judge papers finds metric choice entangled with the judgment scale, tie handling, invalid outputs, and abstention handling, and those choices rarely stated. For binary criteria -- the common case in rubric-based evaluation,...

How abundant are good interpolators?

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Let $S$ be the set of unit norm linear classifiers $\theta \in \mathbb{R}^d$ which correctly classify every point of a labeled dataset $(X_i,y_i)_{i=1}^n$, $X_i \in \mathbb{R}^d$, $y_i \in \{-1,+1\}$, with a possibly negative margin $\kappa$ fixed in advance. Under two natural data-generating distributions of the $(X,y)$ pairs -- a Gaussian mixture model and a logistic model with Gaussian features -- and in the proportional regime $n/d \to \alpha$ with small...
