Unmixing ATR-{\mu}FTIR spectroscopic images of cross-sections of historical oil paintings

arXiv:2603.06673v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Spectroscopic imaging (SI) has become central to heritage science because it enables non-invasive, spatially resolved characterisation of materials in artefacts. In particular, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared microscopy (ATR-$\mu$FTIR) is widely used to analyse painting cross-sections, where a spectrum is recorded at each pixel to form a hyperspectral image (HSI).

Social Reasoning in Machines: Investigating Collective Truth-Seeking Dynamics in Large Language Model Debate

arXiv:2605.30391v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Human reasoning has long been theorised to operate socially, not through isolated individual cognition, but through collective adversarial discourse, a framework known as the Argumentative Theory of Reasoning (ATR). Rather than relying on individual "intellectualist reasoners" as the primary vehicle for truth-seeking, ATR reconceptualises truth as an emergent property of social epistemology: the product of imperfect individual reasoning refined...

SOD1 Catalyses Thiol Oxidation to Thiosulfinates

Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is canonically regarded as a superoxide scavenging antioxidant yet is paradoxically associated with multiple diseases. Here, we show that SOD1 catalyzes thiol oxidation to thiosulfinates (RS(O)SR), revealing a previously unrecognized copper mediated oxidant forming reaction in biology. Steady state kinetics demonstrate robust, O2 dependent thiol consumption, and ATR FTIR spectra of the SOD1-cysteine reaction display S--O bands ({approx}1042/1169 cm-1)...

Optical-Guided Neural Collapse for SAR Few-Shot Class Incremental Learning

arXiv:2606.04528v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Few-shot class-incremental learning (FSCIL) in synthetic aperture radar imagery presents unique challenges due to severe data scarcity and SAR-specific variability. In particular, strong azimuth sensitivity in SAR induces large intra-class variation and inter-class confusion, and FSCIL sequential updates further lead to catastrophic forgetting of previously learned classes. Inspired by neural collapse, we propose an optical-guided SAR FSCIL...

Britain's oldest cave art may have been rediscovered in Bacon Hole cave

June 2, 2026 report Britain's oldest cave art may have been rediscovered in Bacon Hole cave Paul Arnold Author Gaby Clark Scientific Editor Robert Egan Associate Editor The oldest cave art in Britain may have been discovered, or more likely rediscovered, in a cave on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, possibly dating back around 17,000 years. The red stripe markings on the walls of a cave called Bacon Hole were first spotted in 1912. They were hailed by their finders, Professor William...

Columbia Promo Codes: 15% Off | June 2026

When I decided to take a last-minute ski trip, despite never having skied before, I went straight to Columbia. Was I shredding the slopes? Absolutely not, but at least I was warm, thanks to my Snowy Summit Insulated Jacket and Bugaboo II Pants.

Train staff caught washing utensils in toilet; IRCTC gets notice - video

NEW DELHI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a statutory notice to IRCTC over alleged food safety and hygiene violations on board Train No. 12223, the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Ernakulam Duronto Express after a video circulating on social media showed catering staff washing utensils inside a train toilet. In the notice, FSSAI said the incident came to its attention through a viral social media video which allegedly showed utensils used for onboard catering...
