Ketel Marte frustrating Diamondbacks by opting to take days off with trade deadline looming: report
Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte has reportedly been frustrating people within the organization with the MLB trade deadline looming. Marte, a switch-hitter with power from both sides of the plate, is someone Arizona has tried to trade this past winter despite his talent and six-year extension that kicked in this season. But USA TODAY reported Marte "continues to frustrate segments of the organization by opting to take days off."
Shohei Ohtani puts together patently absurd stat line against Diamondbacks as tear on the mound continues
Another day that ends in the letter y, another ridiculous performance from Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani. The sports world as a whole has become numb to Ohtani putting in ridiculous performances both on the mound and at the plate, which is the ultimate compliment for the Japanese star. The stat line he put together on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, however, is worth highlighting because it's just that impressive.

Arizona Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas and Los Angeles Dodgers' Max Muncy both crashed down to the infield dirt after a bang-bang play. Nolan Arenado was slugging his way through the month of May when the Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman woke up one morning with an ailment that's familiar to those who felt invincible in their 20s but have advanced to their mid-to-late 30s. Not enough to keep him out of the lineup. But it was one of those inexplicable moments that comes with being an aging Major League Baseball player — threatening to derail a hot streak for an eight-time All-Star who just turned 35."There's more aches and...

D-backs' Lovullo defends Marte: 'Great teammate'
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo went to bat for Ketel Marte on Tuesday, saying any idea that the star second baseman is fracturing the Arizona clubhouse "couldn't be further from the truth." Lovullo's comments came in the wake of a USA Today report over the weekend that Marte is again frustrating some members of the organization by taking days off. But Lovullo said that was untrue.

This season's MLB trade deadline -- Aug. 3 -- is a little later than usual. Still, it's not too early in the season to begin pondering how teams might approach it. As we do with Stock Watch each June, let's take a look at how all 30 clubs are grouped in terms of postseason outlook, and what needs to happen between now and then to clarify each team's deadline status.
Passan's latest trade intel on all 30 MLB teams: B...
Major League Baseball's trade season is fast approaching, and the sport's cramped standings are providing little clarity on who's likeliest to end up where. There are too many contenders -- and too many teams whose dreams of contention remain -- to figure out how this deadline is likely to operate. At this time last year, remember, the Milwaukee Brewers, who wound up winning a major league-best 97 games, were barely above .500.
