Jays' Sanchez hurts wrist on ball thrown by fan

BALTIMORE -- Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sánchez was injured by a ball thrown from the bleachers Sunday, sustaining a bruise to his right wrist that forced him to leave the game against the Baltimore Orioles. The culprit wasn't a malicious fan. Rather, the ball was tossed by a youngster who merely wanted to play a game of catch.

Orioles' Leody Taveras suffers most embarrassing strikeout of the pitch clock era against his former team

Not all strikeouts are created equal, and nothing may exemplify that more than the punch-out Baltimore Orioles center fielder Leody Taveras endured against the Seattle Mariners. Taveras, who played 28 games for Seattle a season ago, was Baltimore's leadoff man in the bottom of the ninth with his club trailing 4-2 at home. In a spot where he could have jump-started a comeback, he instead struck out in what very well could be the most embarrassing fashion possible of the modern era.

O's irked after Clement ruled safe in Jays' win

TORONTO -- Ernie Clement swerved to his right and dodged a tag attempt by Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who threw to first, assuming the Toronto Blue Jays baserunner would be called out for leaving the baseline. Instead of an inning-ending double play, umpires ruled that Clement was safe, and it turned out to be the key play as Toronto rallied for a 6-4 victory Sunday. The Orioles led 4-1 in the sixth when Clement reached on Henderson's fielding error.

Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sánchez leaves game after appearing to be hit by ball thrown from stands

There are a lot of ways for a baseball player to leave a game with an injury. Getting hit in the hand by a ball from a fan in the stands is apparently one of those ways, although it's not a very common one. Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jesús Sánchez exited Sunday’s 9-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles after he was hit by a ball that came from the stands at Camden Yards.

MLB post-hype check-in: What to make of former big...

Players like Corbin Carroll, Paul Skenes, Nick Kurtz and now Kevin McGonigle have spoiled it for all hyped Major League Baseball prospects in recent years: We expect instant stardom from them, forgetting that baseball, as the great Jimmy Dugan once said, is "supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it."

Atlanta's reign atop our list continues for the fourth consecutive week, as the Braves narrowly beat out the Dodgers for the No. 1 spot in Week 10. Blue Jays rally while Orioles' double-play attempt negated as umps rule infielder failed to try to tag runner

The replay system and the Automated Balls and Strikes system (ABS) may be a saving grace for some players and managers but the human element of baseball will always be a factor in the game as it was in a game between two American League East contenders. The Toronto Blue Jays and second baseman Ernie Clement may have benefited the most from the human aspect of the game in the sixth inning on Sunday. TAKE THE DON'T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD.
