Prefrontal acetylcholine (ACh) deficits, as well as nigrostriatal dopamine deficits, are implicated in vulnerability to falls. PD patients with loss of cortical ACh and associated cognitive dysfunction experience a higher rate of falls than PD patients without cortical ACh loss.
