Personalized to Persuade: The Effects of Contextualization and Warmth on Trust and Reliance in Conversational AI

Announce Type: new Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents personalize their responses by tailoring explanations to users' backgrounds, interests, and prior interactions, referred to as contextualization. Personalization has been identified as a persuasive strategy in politics or in marketing. However, the persuasive effect of contextualization in everyday tasks, where users often lack prior knowledge, remains unclear.

Contextual Scenario Generation for Two-Stage Stochastic Programming

arXiv:2502.05349v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Two-stage stochastic programs (2SPs) are widely used for decision-making under uncertainty, but their practical deployment is often limited by the large number of scenarios needed to approximate the conditional distribution of uncertain outcomes. We study contextual scenario generation: given contextual information, learn to produce a small, user-specified set of surrogate scenarios that, when used as input into the 2SP, lead to...

MAAM: Anchor-Preserving Compression and Contextual Calibration for Chinese Discriminatory Language Detection

Announce Type: new Abstract: Chinese discriminatory-language detection is challenging because harmful intent is often implicit and context-dependent. We propose MAAM (Myopia--Astigmatism Anchor Mechanism), a lightweight, model-agnostic framework inspired by functional visual blur: rather than preserving every token equally, MAAM retains discrimination-relevant semantic anchors and calibrates them with C--I--S contextual priors (Contextual Tone, Group Identity, and Stance Polarity). We also...

Decision-Focused On-Policy Learning for Contextual Linear Optimization with Partial Feedback

arXiv:2606.01081v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Decision-focused learning (DFL) trains predictive models by optimizing downstream decision quality rather than standalone prediction accuracy. For contextual linear optimization, most existing DFL methods assume offline data and full observations of the objective cost vector. We develop an on-policy learning method for sequential contextual linear optimization under partial feedback, generalizing the standard bandit feedback setting.

Contextualized Prompting For Stance Detection On Social Media

Announce Type: new Abstract: Stance detection on social media is challenging due to short, noisy, and context-dependent language. While large language models (LLMs) show zero-shot generalization, they are typically prompted without contextual information, which limits their ability to interpret ambiguous posts. In this work, we systematically investigate the impact of incorporating real-world (e.g., user biographies), derived (e.g., political party), and LLM-generated (e.g., target...

Hallucinations as Orthogonal Noise: Inference-Time Manifold Alignment via Dynamic Contextual Orthogonalization

Announce Type: new Abstract: Hallucination in Large Language Models (LLMs), characterized by the generation of content inconsistent with contextual facts or logical constraints -- remains a persistent challenge for reliable deployment. In this work, we address this issue through a geometric framework rooted in the linear representation hypothesis. We propose that hallucinations manifest as orthogonal noise relative to the semantic manifold of the residual stream.

Failure of contextual invariance in large language models

Announce Type: replace Abstract: Standard evaluation practices assume that large language model (LLM) outputs are stable when prompts are embedded in contextually equivalent discourses. Here, we test this assumption in the setting of gender inference. Using a controlled pronoun selection task, we introduce minimal, theoretically uninformative discourse context and find that this induces large, systematic shifts in model outputs.

A Direct Approach for Handling Contextual Bandits with Latent State Dynamics

Announce Type: replace Abstract: We consider a linear contextual bandit model where contexts and rewards are governed by a finite hidden Markov chain. We first revisit the simplified model by Nelson et al. (2022), in which rewards are linear functions of the posterior probabilities over the hidden states given the observed contexts (called beliefs), rather than functions of the hidden states themselves.

Practical and Optimal Algorithm for Linear Contextual Bandits with Rare Parameter Updates

arXiv:2606.00984v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We study linear contextual bandits under rare parameter updates: the learner may incorporate reward feedback into its parameter estimate only at a small number of update times, while still observing contexts online and selecting actions sequentially. This viewpoint clarifies a practical distinction that is often blurred in the literature: many "strictly batched" methods additionally restrict within-interval context adaptivity, meaning that...

Online Pandora's Box for Contextual LLM Cascading

Announce Type: new Abstract: Motivated by Large Language Model (LLM) cascading, we propose an online contextual Pandora's Box model for adaptively querying and selecting LLM APIs. In each period, a decision-maker observes a request context and faces a two-phase decision problem. In the query phase, the decision-maker sequentially queries APIs, where each query reveals a generated output and the decision-maker incurs an (output-dependent) cost.
