Flex-fuel vehicles practical solution to reduce crude imports: Hardeep Singh Puri
Petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday said flex-fuel vehicles offer India a practical way to reduce crude oil imports. He said if even 1% of annual petrol vehicle sales shift to the technology, it would generate demand for four crore litres of ethanol and save Rs 195 crore in foreign exchange each year. Puri also said this would lead to a reduction of approximately 0.3 lakh metric tonnes in crude oil imports and net reduction of nearly 0.9 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Around 500 ethanol dispensing stations (E100) will be set up in the country by Dec and 5,000 by 2027, petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Thursday. The move is aimed at accelerating penetration of flex fuel vehicles (FFVs). Puri made the announcement at launch of India’s first flex-fuel car — WagonR by Maruti Suzuki — which can run on ethanol blended fuel beyond the current 20% threshold, signalling a fresh push to put more ethanol at pumps and less imported fuel in vehicles.
India expands ethanol map: 5,000 fuel stations planned by 2027 end

Under the plan, ethanol dispensing stations will begin appearing in several cities, with the network set for a sharp expansion over the next two years. Petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the rollout will start with 50-100 ethanol fuel stations across Delhi-NCR, Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur.

State-run oil marketing companies will offer E85 fuel at a discount of Rs 20 per litre compared with E20 petrol to make up for the biofuel’s lower energy content, petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri said after inaugurating an E85 dispensing facility at a petrol pump in Delhi. E85 is a fuel blend containing 85% ethanol and 15%...
