India reviews duty sop on Scotch in UK trade deal

Govt is reviewing tariff concessions on Scotch and some other products proposed in the trade agreement with the UK if its concerns over steel quotas and duties are not addressed before the treaty is ratified. "We have to rebalance the FTA... We haven't made up our mind, but we can consider action on certain goods like Scotch, unless they roll back the steel duty," a senior govt official said ahead of UK trade secretary Peter Kyle's visit to resolve the deadlock.

Centre cuts subsidised LPG cylinders for Ujjwala beneficiaries from 9 to 4

The Centre on Monday reduced the number of subsidised cooking gas cylinders available annually to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from nine to four aligning the support with average household consumption levels, a senior government official said. Under the flagship scheme launched in May 2016, beneficiaries were initially entitled to 12 subsidised 14.2-kg LPG cylinders every year. The quota was reduced to nine cylinders last year and has now been cut further to four.
