JONATHAN TURLEY: California proves voters get the government they tolerate
This week, the nation watched as California grappled again with the ordinarily straightforward task of counting votes in an election. While large states such as Florida declare election winners within 24 hours, California may take up to two weeks to count all the votes. Even Los Angeles cannot count its votes in the time of large states despite giving the Clerk an annual budget of $336 million and a $448,179 a year salary with the help of 1,100 budgeted positions.
JONATHAN TURLEY: Kennedy Center ruling gets Trump's name right but repairs badly wrong
In a ruling Friday, District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the cessation of all repair plans for the Kennedy Center and the removal of Trump’s name from the building within two weeks. It is a detailed and comprehensive opinion, but I believe Judge Cooper is wrong about halting the repairs. I previously expressed skepticism over the claim that the board could order such a change unilaterally.
MORNING GLORY: A summer of celebration followed by a fall of mourning
The next four months are anniversary heavy. Before the fireworks of the 250th Fourth of July begin, try with family and friends to agree on what we are celebrating, and try as well to articulate why and how we defend what our country has long been committed to on paper and for 250 years in actual and expanding practice. While the Semiquincentennial is upon us in a month, we are also only three months and an handful of days away from the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by Al...

The federal prosecutor handling the Justice Department’s criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey over his "86 47" seashell Instagram post has stepped down, according to a new court filing. A notice of substitution filed Friday in the Eastern District of North Carolina says Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo will replace Matthew Petracca "as counsel for the government. REPS ANDY HARRIS, KEITH SELF, SEN RICK SCOTT: Fix FISA. Don’t spy on us
America’s founding generation did not take up arms merely over unreasonable taxation. They understood ceding their rights to the government for promise of security was a bad deal. They believed risking death to live free was better than subsisting under tyranny.
The anti-communism movie quote that spells doom for the Democrats in the midterms
For years, I have told various people in politics, the media and the financial world that the most impressive investment CEO I have ever encountered is fictional. One who came from nothing; identified with the working-class over the elites; established a persona deliberately meant to be underestimated by his snobbish competitors; and truly prized morality over money. That fictional CEO being Lawrence Garfield.
MORNING GLORY: California Democrats dumped Porter, but Maine Dems hold onto Platner for dear life
Former Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter got smoked in Tuesday’s "jungle primary" for California’s governor’s race, the runoff for which will come in November. Right now, it looks like Steve Hilton vs. Xavier Becerra will face each other in the general election, though that won’t be certain for days — but we do know Porter won’t be in the final. She plummeted from her position as the early front-runner and darling of progressives last year after questions about her temperament surfaced...
MIKE DAVIS: Disgraced Georgia judge must leave the bench over sex scandal
U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon filed a motion Friday seeking the recusal of Atlanta U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross from a key election-integrity case after Ross admittedly – and illegally – attended a partisan Democrat fundraiser for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Obviously, Ross’ attendance makes clear she isn't impartial. But this is just the beginning of Ross’s legal troubles.
