FQA: A Full-Space Quantization-Driven Architecture for Hardware-Efficient Piecewise Approximation of Nonlinear Activation Functions
arXiv:2606.05627v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In this paper, we propose a full-space quantization-driven architecture (FQA) for the hardware-efficient piecewise polynomial approximations (PPAs) of nonlinear activation functions. FQA comprehensively considers both fractional-bit truncation error and quantization error that cause the deviation of the optimal approximation coefficients. Crucially, FQA can precisely determine and search the complete range of optimal coefficients.
Anthropic/OpenAI may be spending more than $1000 for every $100 you pay them
For reasons that will remain hidden, we resume writing about Generative AI/LLM after a hiatus of 15 months (that one from October 2025, and the one from June 2025, don’t really count as serious pieces). Today, the first of two articles about “coding with Large ‘Language’ Models”, as coding with LLMs is positioned as the ‘killer app‘ for LLMs. We interrupt this program for a short digression on Anthropic’s recently released blog post When AI builds itself.
Deep learning four decades of human migration
Abstract Human migration is a fundamental driver of global demographic change, shaping population structure, labour markets and social policy across countries1,2,3. Although long-term migration patterns are often linked to economic development4, they can shift rapidly in response to shocks such as conflict, environmental crises and political change5. Despite its importance, migration remains difficult to measure consistently: existing data are sparse, concentrated in high-income settings and...
Pre-release access to DWP statistics
Pre-release access to DWP statistics Job titles of people with pre-release access to Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) statistics and the organisations they belong to. We’ve published the DWP arrangements for pre-release access to statistics in the interests of openness and transparency.
A prognostic human brain network for diffuse midline glioma
Abstract Diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs) are near-universally lethal tumours of the childhood central nervous system1,2. In animal models, DMGs form brain-wide integrated networks through neuron-to-glioma synapses3,4,5,6 and glioma-to-glioma gap junctional coupling3. This extensive connectivity robustly promotes the growth and invasion of DMG3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and other glial malignancies10,11,12 through paracrine mechanisms and direct neuron-to-glioma synapses.
A 10 year old Xeon is all you need (for 26B-A4B MTP Drafters without GPU)
A 10 year old Xeon is all you need 17 minutes read The previous post covered getting Gemma 4’s MTP drafters quantized and paired with a verifier. This one is about running the result on a machine that has no business running it. I have a recycled server.
Amplified Arctic iceberg traffic reshapes benthic biodiversity
Abstract The Arctic is undergoing rapid warming, resulting in retreating sea ice and glaciers1, yet how cryospheric changes propagate into the deep ocean remains poorly understood2. Here we identify a climate-driven mechanism linking accelerating glacier disintegration to an increase in deep-sea hard-bottom habitats far beyond calving fronts. Seafloor observations in Fram Strait show a localized increase in the density and patchiness of dropstones delivered by debris-laden icebergs.
