Government to deploy 340 more PSP officers to Portuguese airports to cut queues

Of the 340 officers to be deployed across Portugal’s airports from July, 140 will be assigned to Lisbon and 100 to Porto. Interior Minister Luís Neves announced on Friday that national airports will be reinforced with a further 340 Public Security Police (PSP) officers at the beginning of July, in order to streamline border control procedures. "On 4 July we will deploy another 340 people, PSP officers who are currently receiving specific training for work at the borders.

Radial evolution of Alfv\'en wave Parametric Decay Instability in the near-Sun solar wind: Effects of Temperature Anisotropy

arXiv:2604.22489v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Parametric decay instability (PDI) of Alfv\'en wave is thought to play an important role in the dissipation of the large-amplitude Alfv\'en waves and in the heating of magnetized plasmas. Temperature anisotropy is frequently observed by spacecraft, including Parker Solar Probe (PSP), in the near-Sun solar wind, yet its impact on PDI in the near-Sun solar wind has been understudied. We calculate the maximum growth rates of PDI,...

Hybrid simulations of the proton beam instabilities in the young solar wind. The formation of hammerhead-like distributions

Announce Type: new Abstract: Parker Solar Probe (PSP) observations in the young solar wind reveal new properties of both plasma particle velocity distributions (VDs) and associated electromagnetic (EM) wave fluctuations. The quasilinear (QL) kinetic theory of plasma wave instabilities has recently shown that new hammerhead (HH) proton distributions can be generated by the relaxation of proton beams through the instabilities of right-handed (RH) polarized waves. Such RH waves have indeed been...

Neural Acquisition & Representation of Subsurface Scattering

arXiv:2606.02292v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We present a method to acquire and estimate the sub-surface scattering properties of light transport at a highly detailed level by learning the pixel footprint response at each point on the object surface. The reconstruction leverages 3D scanning techniques as input to a U-Net CNN. A stereo projector-camera setup using phase-shifted profilometry (PSP) patterns efficiently captures the data for a variety of scattering objects.

Show HN: Lathe – Use LLMs to learn a new domain, not skip past it

Hey HN!Lathe is an experiment in using LLMs to teach me something new, instead of doing the work for me. It generates a hands-on, source-backed tutorial for any technical topic you want to learn. Then you work through it yourself by reading and typing the code by hand (gasp) in a local UI built for exactly that.

General strike: CGTP reports strong support, government says 'country functioning normally'

During the night shift there was an almost complete shutdown in several National Health Service hospitals. Many schools are closed and flights have been cancelled. The government has already responded to Wednesday's general strike, playing down its overall impact.
