California neighborhood on alert after bat found near sidewalk tests positive for rabies virus

A rabid bat found near a California neighborhood has prompted health officials to urge residents to avoid contact with wildlife and seek immediate medical attention if they believe they may have been exposed. On May 26, a bat was found near Palo Verde Common in South Fremont, close to a sidewalk and "within reachable distance of pedestrians and animals," the Fremont Police Department said. Alameda County Vector Control confirmed Thursday that the bat tested positive for rabies.

Dissipative generation of spin squeezing in the resolved vacuum Rabi splitting limit

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Harnessing dissipation in the presence of strong symmetries has recently emerged as a promising route for generating entanglement in atomic clocks. However, previous proposals relied on regimes where cavity photons can be adiabatically eliminated, significantly limiting their applicability to experimentally relevant cavity-QED regimes that lie in or near the resolved vacuum Rabi splitting regime.

Rainbow RABBITT as a Probe of Coherent Rabi Dynamics

Announce Type: new Abstract: Attosecond pulse trains interacting with a resonantly dressed atom generate a pronounced intra-sideband phase structure that remains hidden in conventional spectrally integrated RABBITT measurements. Using \textit{ab initio} time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation calculations for lithium near the resonant $2s\to2p$ transition, we show that the phase extracted within a single sideband can vary by nearly $\pi$ across its spectral width.

Rydberg state engineering of trapped ions

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Microwave dressing of Rydberg ions creates tunable eigenstates with controllable polarizability and interaction strength, but coherent navigation between these states has remained elusive. Here, we report on the first demonstration of coherent population transfer between different Rydberg states of a trapped ion. We investigate both microwave-mediated Rabi oscillations between Rydberg S and P states and adiabatic transfer between microwave-dressed Rydberg states.

Photoelectron spectroscopy with a resonant dichromatic field: Role of geometric phase

Announce Type: new Abstract: We investigate geometric-phase control in resonantly driven two-level atoms exposed to near-degenerate dichromatic laser pulses. In contrast to conventional two-color schemes based on widely separated frequencies, the closely spaced frequency components generate a slowly varying beating envelope that repeatedly reverses the pseudo-spin rotation on the Bloch sphere. This enables coherent control of the geometric phase accumulated during Rabi dynamics and strongly...

Ground-state phase diagram of Rydberg atoms in a triangular-prism array

arXiv:2606.01116v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We study the ground-state phase diagram of Rydberg atoms in a triangular-prism optical tweezer array using the density matrix renormalization group. By tuning the detuning-to-Rabi-frequency ratio and the Rydberg blockade radius, the system realizes several density-wave phases with spontaneous breaking of translational and leg-exchange symmetries. Unlike two-leg Rydberg ladders with $\mathbb{Z}_2$ leg-exchange symmetry, the triangular prism...

Anomalous Autler-Townes Splitting in Resonant Multiphoton Ionization Driven by Bright Squeezed Vacuum

Announce Type: new Abstract: Bright squeezed vacuum (BSV) light has a vanishing mean optical electric field yet can strongly enhance strong-field nonlinear responses beyond the conventional semiclassical paradigm. Here we examine this scenario in the light-matter strong-coupling regime by investigating resonant multiphoton ionization of atoms driven by BSV, using a fully quantum treatment of both the electron and the field.

Electrically tunable spin qubits in strain-engineered graphene p-n junctions

arXiv:2512.14508v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Strain engineering enables quantum confinement in pristine graphene without degrading its intrinsic mobility and spin coherence. Here, we extend previously proposed strain-induced charge-qubit architectures by incorporating spin degrees of freedom through Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) and Zeeman fields, enabling spin-qubit operation in single-layer graphene (SLG). In a graphene p-n junction, a strain-induced nanobubble generates a...

Time series learning in a many-body Rydberg system with emergent collective amplification

arXiv:2511.15047v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Interacting Rydberg atoms constitute a versatile platform for the realization of non-equilibrium states of matter. Close to phase transitions, they respond collectively to external perturbations, which can be harnessed for technological applications in the domain of quantum metrology and sensing. Owing to the controllable complexity and straightforward interpretability of Rydberg atoms, we can observe and tune the emergent collective...

Party chief makes Nepal's first India trip since uprising

Party chief makes Nepal's first India trip since uprising NEW DELHI: Nepal's ruling party chief called for closer economic and strategic cooperation with India on Tuesday (Jun 2), on the first high-level visit since deadly 2025 anti-corruption youth protests toppled the previous government. But this trip to a key ally was not by Nepal's new prime minister - 36-year-old rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah. Shah has shunned meetings with several foreign envoys to Nepal and, according to his...
