Toward Mobile and Converged Backhaul: The Promise of Wireless Access and Backhaul
arXiv:2606.06075v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Wireless Access and Backhaul (WAB) is emerging as a key enabler for flexible and cost-efficient 5G deployments, offering a modular architecture that decouples access and backhaul while supporting multi-technology and mobile backhaul links. This article introduces the WAB framework standardized in 3GPP Release 19, outlining its architecture and operational principles. A practical implementation built with commercial hardware and open-source...
Toward Accessible Mobile Money: A Voice-Driven, Biometrically Secured USSD Automation Framework for Visually Impaired Users
Announce Type: new Abstract: Financial inclusion has expanded significantly across Africa through mobile money services delivered primarily via USSD technology. However, visually impaired individuals continue to face accessibility and security barriers when conducting financial transactions. Current USSD systems are not designed for non-visual interaction, forcing users to rely on third-party assistance even for PIN entry, thereby increasing fraud exposure and reducing transaction confidence.
Towards Efficient and Evidence-grounded Mobility Prediction with LLM-Driven Agent
arXiv:2606.05130v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Individual-level mobility prediction is central to urban simulation, transportation planning, and policy analysis. Supervised sequence models achieve strong accuracy but require task-specific training and offer limited decision-level transparency. Recent LLM-based methods improve interpretability, yet mostly rely on static prompts and single-pass inference, limiting their ability to seek additional evidence when mobility signals are weak or...
Collaborative Navigation and Exploration with $\beta$-Sparse Gaussian Processes
arXiv:2605.26304v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Collaborative navigation of heterogeneous robots in unknown environments poses significant challenges due to sensing, communication, and computational limitations. In this work, a lead robot navigates toward a target while a mobile sensor robot (e.g., a drone) assists by transmitting information about its locally observed map under bandwidth constraints. We propose a framework that enables the sensor to jointly select its transmitted map...

Flex-fuel vehicles practical solution to reduce crude imports: Hardeep Singh Puri
Petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday said flex-fuel vehicles offer India a practical way to reduce crude oil imports. He said if even 1% of annual petrol vehicle sales shift to the technology, it would generate demand for four crore litres of ethanol and save Rs 195 crore in foreign exchange each year. Puri also said this would lead to a reduction of approximately 0.3 lakh metric tonnes in crude oil imports and net reduction of nearly 0.9 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Seattle mayor shrugs off millionaire-tax concerns as 44% of business leaders consider leaving
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said concerns about wealthy residents and businesses leaving Washington over rising taxes are "overblown" during an interview on Wednesday. "So today, do you still feel the narrative of the rich leaving is still overblown," FOX 13 Seattle co-anchor Hana Kim asked Wilson. "So, I still think that claims of a large exodus of rich people due to our statewide millionaire tax that the legislature passed this year are overblown," Wilson responded with a chuckle.
Dead Sea archaea sport reinforced swimming tail for hypersalty waters
Dead Sea archaea sport reinforced swimming tail for hypersalty waters Sadie Harley Scientific Editor Robert Egan Associate Editor Living in the Dead Sea would be a very unpleasant experience for most creatures. With salt concentration above 30% and temperatures ranging from 10–50°C, it takes unique environmental adaptations to survive in such harsh conditions. In a new Nature Communications study, researchers from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) and the Institute of...
Mobile money can fight poverty, but trust is vital
Mobile money can fight poverty, but trust is vital Gaby Clark Scientific Editor Andrew Zinin Lead Editor Mobile money can help people without bank accounts take part in the economy, but trust and fairness will ultimately determine whether it succeeds, a new study has found. More than two billion mobile money accounts are registered globally, with almost $1.7 trillion processed each year, highlighting the impact of the move towards phone-based finances. Researchers at the University of East...
