Collective Dynamics of Vortex Clusters in Compact Fluid Domains: From Pair Interactions to a Quadrupole Description

arXiv:2604.07373v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Clusters of co-rotating vortices on compact fluid domains exhibit a simple collective dynamics, combining coherent global rotation with a slow breathing of the cluster size. In this work, we investigate an analytic model of vortex interactions on a doubly periodic inviscid fluid domain, based on an exact representation in terms of the Schottky-Klein prime function and its $q$-representation. The two-vortex problem reduces to a single...

Three-dimensional experimental investigation of the interaction between a rising bubble and a vortex ring

Announce Type: new Abstract: The interaction between turbulent flows and bubbles is a complex phenomenon ubiquitous in natural and industrial settings. In this work, we experimentally investigate, from a fundamental perspective, the interaction between a rising bubble and a vortex ring in counterflow. Using time-resolved three-dimensional Lagrangian Particle Tracking (4D-LPT) coupled with shadowgraphy, we obtain simultaneous measurements of the bubble motion and the surrounding liquid flow.

Vortex gust interactions with a freely-flying rigid airfoil

arXiv:2606.06766v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This study numerically investigates the interaction between an isolated vortex gust and a freely-flying airfoil, introducing a theoretical framework for interpreting the coupled lift and heave response. This complex and coupled dynamics is important for modern light-weight aircraft where gusts may easily perturb the wing, generating transient changes in trajectory and attitude. Here, the freely-flying airfoil is modeled with a single...

Vortex: Efficient and Programmable Sparse Attention Serving for AI Agents

arXiv:2606.06453v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Sparse attention is becoming increasingly important for serving large language models (LLMs) as generation lengths continue to grow. However, deploying and evaluating new sparse attention algorithms at scale remains highly engineering-intensive, slowing both human researchers and AI agents in exploring the sparse attention design. To address this challenge, we present Vortex, a system that combines a Python-embedded frontend language atop a...

Optical vortex classification via machine learning

arXiv:2606.03480v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Optical vortices carry quantized phase information (topological charge) and are considered candidates for information processing in all-optical circuits. Accurately identifying the quantized vortex charge in a way that is most efficient is essential for data processing. Here, we demonstrate that using only intensity information machine learning algorithms are able to classify vortices into distinct phase categories using a properly trained model.

Controlled generation of ultrafast vector vortex beams from a mode-locked fiber laser

Announce Type: new Abstract: We report on a new class of mode-locked fiber laser that allows direct creation of ultrafast vector vortex beams at arbitrary positions on the higher-order Poincar\'{e} sphere. The on-demand generation of space-variant polarization patterns was realized by controlling geometric phases inside the laser resonator to map polarization to orbital angular momentum. Thanks to the ingenious cavity design, the required intracavity manipulation of the geometric phase...

Mid-Infrared Single-Photon Edge Enhanced Imaging based on Nonlinear Vortex Filtering

Announce Type: new Abstract: Edge enhanced imaging via the spiral phase contrast enables to reveal the phase or amplitude gradients of a target, which has been proved useful in feature recognition, machine vision, and object identification. A long quest is to extend the operation wavelength into the mid-infrared (MIR) region, as highly demanded in various fields including infrared sensing, astronomic observation, and biomedical diagnosis.

Euler-Korteweg vortices: A fluid-mechanical analogue to the Schr\"odinger and Klein-Gordon equations

arXiv:2512.23771v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Quantum theory and relativity exhibit several formal analogies with fluid mechanics. This paper extends upon known analogies by showing that under specific assumptions, an Euler-Korteweg vortex model can be cast into equations that are mathematically equivalent to the Schr\"odinger and Klein-Gordon equations.

DC response of an interferometer topology with an L-shaped cavity: a tabletop study

Announce Type: replace Abstract: A new interferometer topology for kilohertz gravitational-wave detection was recently proposed in [Zhang et al. Rev. X 13, 021019 (2023)]. The design is based on an L-shaped optical cavity pumped through a Sagnac-like vortex.

Nonlinear Equation for Dust Drift Waves

arXiv:2606.03233v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: A nonlinear equation for dust drift waves is derived assuming two-dimensional propagation and ignoring the role of dust acoustic waves. Both the nonlinear dust density term and the dust vorticity term are taken into account. If vorticity term is ignored, the equation gives two dimensional solitary waves and if density nonlinearity effect is discarded, then it reduces to Hasegawa-Mima equation for dust drift waves which admits dipole vortex...
