Could Democrats be shut out of the California governor’s race?
San Francisco, California – A free-for-all primary has put Democrats at risk of being shut out of the race for governor in an otherwise safe state: California. Stretching along the west coast of the United States, California has a reputation for leaning blue. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the state nearly two to one.
Where the redistricting fight stands heading into the midterms
It’s been a long six weeks for Democrats in the redistricting wars. By the end of April, the party had drawn enough Democratic-leaning seats to turn the back-and-forth over new congressional maps for the midterms that President Donald Trump had started a year earlier into roughly a wash. Then the courts acted: The U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, opening the door to Republican-led states in the South to eliminating majority-Black districts held by Democrats.
How to Save the Supreme Court From Itself

Frum compares this to the paranoia and conspiratorial thinking that cost the Republican Party dearly in the 2010s and cautions the Democrats against making the same mistakes. Josh Turek wins Democratic primary in battleground Iowa Senate race
Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek has won the Democratic nomination for his state’s open U.S. Senate seat, NBC News projects, advancing from a combative primary to a potentially competitive general election in a state that has favored Republicans in recent elections. Turek defeated state Sen. Zach Wahls and will face Rep. Ashley Hinson, the winner of Tuesday’s GOP primary, in the general election. The seat is up for grabs after Republican Sen. Joni Ernst decided not to seek re-election this year.
If It Quacks Like a Lame Duck….
President Trump has never really cared about the Republican Party per se. He basks in its adulation, and it’s beneficial to him when the GOP controls Congress. But he’s never adhered to its orthodoxies or honored its heroes.
Cut Platner Loose
The Maine Senate race is far from the first time that an American political party has had to choose between character and power. In 2017, Alabama Republicans nominated a state supreme court judge named Roy Moore for U.S. Senate. A month before election day, The Washington Post published a report that when Moore was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney, he initiated sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl.
Republicans fear of 'fatal mistake' in must-win Platner race
Senate Republicans are warning that scandal-plagued oysterman Graham Platner could still defeat Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, if the party fails to take the race seriously. Republicans are defending several seats in expectedly close races, including Nebraska, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas, while seeking to flip Georgia. Maine is different: Sen. Susan Collins' seat is the only Republican-held Senate seat in a state won by Kamala Harris in 2024, making it Democrats' most direct path to...

Subscribe here: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube | Overcast | Pocket CastsA couple of weeks ago, several Republican senators not only criticized President Trump’s proposed $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” in a private meeting but “screamed” at Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, according to Senator Ted Cruz on his podcast. “There were multiple senators yelling at the attorney general, saying this feels like self-dealing,” Cruz said, presumably echoing broader criticism that this...
