Tyan-WP: A Wind Power Foundation Model for Ultra-Short-Term Probabilistic Forecasting

arXiv:2606.08630v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Global wind power capacity, especially in China, is booming, with new farms spanning diverse terrains and climates. The industry urgently needs accurate wind power foundation models to shorten commissioning and accelerate grid connection. This is because site-specific time series models (TSMs) are not well suited to data-scarce scenarios and generalize poorly, while generic large time series models (LTSMs) are mostly limited to univariate...

A Systematic Evaluation of Current Architectures in Wind Power Forecasting

arXiv:2606.02849v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Interval wind speed forecasting is essential for the efficient integration of wind energy into power systems, as it accounts for the inherent uncertainty of wind resources. This study presents a systematic literature review focused on hybrid approaches to interval forecasting of wind generation, exploring the combination of deep learning, modal decomposition, and statistical methods. To guide the paper selection, Latent Dirichlet Allocation...

World’s first wind-powered underwater datacentre starts operating in China

Datacentre off Shanghai coast uses less power and water than land-based equivalent The world’s first wind-powered underwater datacentre has started operations off the coast of Shanghai, as China presses forwards with solutions for energy challenges created by the country’s artificial intelligence boom. The Shanghai Lingang undersea datacentre demonstration project, which launched in May, has a capacity of 24 megawatts. It is a joint effort between HiCloud Technology and China Communications...

China Opens World's First Wind-Powered Underwater Data Center

China has become the first country in the world to operate an underwater data center, or UDC, powered by wind. Located off the coast of Shanghai, the complex represents a significant advance in the country's strategy to secure energy supplies in the face of the accelerated growth of artificial intelligence, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and reduce the environmental impact of its technology infrastructure. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between private company HiCloud...

Benchmarking Sequential Feedback Optimization for Wind Farm Power Maximization

arXiv:2606.08315v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper benchmarks sequential feedback optimization (SFO) for wind farm power maximization using a medium-fidelity dynamic flow model. We compare SFO with two well-established approaches, adjoint-based economic model predictive control (AMPC) and extremum seeking control (ESC), under a common nine-turbine layout and identical operating constraints. The comparison focuses on steady-state power production and computational efficiency, both...

Many wind and solar power plants in China are strangled amid global energy crisis: report

China is wasting a huge amount of green energy as the world grapples with an energy shortage because of the Strait of Hormuz crisis. The “wasted” wind and solar energy stems from inflexible grid management that continues to position coal as a stabilising source of power and stymies a clean energy expansion that could otherwise generate electricity equivalent to the needs of France, according to analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) think tank. China’s energy...

In a first, wind and solar generated more power than gas globally in April 2026

Wind and solar just hit a major global milestone: For the first time ever, they generated more electricity than gas for the full month of April. According to new analysis from independent energy think tank Ember, wind and solar produced 22% of the world’s electricity in April 2026, compared to 20% from gas. Together, the two renewable sources generated a record 531 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity during the month, 54 TWh more than gas plants generated globally, at 477 TWh.
