Carrying out home renovations can throw up all kinds of surprises. Whether it's some beautiful tiles hidden underneath a carpet or flooring, some very dodgy wiring, or hidden messages left behind by previous residents, you never know what you'll find.
One man renovating a house found something which dated back more than 40 years while working on the kitchen. Donnie Maclean shared a picture of the surprising find on X, formerly Twitter.
He revealed he had found a very retro-looking bag of Golden Wonder crispy bacon flavour crisps. And even more amazingly, the packet was still sealed, and the crisps, which appear to still be intact, can be seen through transparent portions on both sides of the bag.
Posting pictures of the front and reverse of the packet, Donnie wrote: "Hey @GoldenWonderUK. I'm renovating the house I bought recently. I just pulled a kitchen unit away from the wall and found these beauties! I'm estimating late 1970s. What do you reckon?!"
The picture of the front of the 25g packet shows a red bag, with the Golden Wonder logo and the words 'potato crisps' above a transparent window showing the contents. Below that are the words 'crispy bacon flavour'.
The rear also includes a transparent portion, as well as a list of the ingredients and the words "Have you tried the latest appetising flavour in the Golden Wonder range? New: Prawn cocktail flavour".
It also features a "please keep your country tidy" message and instructions of how to contact Golden Wonder. A series of numbers stamped on the back seem to suggest it was produced in 1986.
Another X user shared a picture of what they said were bags of Golden Wonder crispy bacon flavour crisps dating from 1980 to 1996, pointing out that the one Donnie had found matched the second bag in the image. They added: "1983 give or take a couple of years I'd guess."
Other X users reacted to the find. One said: "100 per cent you open them a genie will come out! Whether they grant you three wishes or bring about the end of civilisation as we know it is another thing."
Another wrote: "Reckon the bacon flavour is so concentrated here that these are perhaps the most baconiest things in the world. Pure unadulterated bacon. Even more than a Frazzle, or a Bacon Fry."
Others remarked on how the bag appeared to be completely full. One said: "Wow. Remember when they weren't selling bags of air with a couple crisps in the bottom."
Another wrote: "Wow an actual FULL packet of crisps, don't see that these days. Now they are 70 per cent air."
Golden Wonder has been a fixture in the British snack market for almost 80 years. Founded in Stockbridge, near Edinburgh, in 1947, it previously produced Wotsits, now owned by Walkers, as well as Wheat Crunchies, and Nik Naks, now made by KP.
In 2006 the company went into administration, but was ultimately bought by Northern Irish crisp manufacturer Tayto.
