Was Keir Starmer right to resign? Take our poll and have your say Keir Starmer said in an emotional statement he is stepping down as leader of the Labour Party, though he will remain caretaker prime minister until a new Labour leader is chosen in the coming weeks Keir Starmer announced his resignation as Prime Minister this week — and Mirror readers have had a lot to say about the decision. The Labour leader, 63, met with Andy Burnham yesterday, their first face-to-face encounter since Mr Starmer resigned and Mr Burnham won the Makersfield by-election. Mr Burnham, who was mayor of Greater Manchester for nine years, is widely tipped to become the next leader. The 56-year-old man confirmed his leadership campaign earlier this week, and has been backed by the likes of Wes Streeting. Mirror readers have voiced their thoughts on the developments, and are encouraged to continue to do so on this site and with letters to our editor. Use our poll below to initially - and leave a comment below this piece. Today, Mr Starmer faced a fiery Prime Minister’s Questions as Kemi Badenoch showed little sympathy for the outgoing leader. During a heated exchange, Ms Badenoch lashed out at multiple Labour members, including Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson who she branded a "spiteful class warrior". Ms Phillipson and DWP Secretary Liz Kendall confronted the Tory leader as they passed in the voting division on their way out of PMQs, with Ms Kendall calling out the behaviour. In response, Ms Badenoch is said to have told Ms Phillipson: “I’m never going to stop talking about how spiteful you are.” The fuming Education Secretary - who was allegedly forced to shout her reply as Ms Badenoch walked off - said: “The public are going to find out who you really are.” The opposition leader dismissed Mr Burnham has "a pair of eyelashes and a black T-shirt" in a particularly brutal jibe. It came as she made comment about Labour MPs who had let the PM down.
