H&M AB reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter earnings, posing a fresh challenge to the Swedish fast-fashion retailer’s turnaround efforts amid intense competition and cautious consumer spending.
Operating profit for the three months through May came in at 5.91 billion kronor ($610 million), missing analysts’ average estimate of 6.3 billion kronor in a Bloomberg survey. Sales in local currencies fell 3%, compared with expectations for flat growth. H&M said sales in June are expected to be on par with the same month the previous year.
