M25 traffic live: Anticlockwise delays at Junction 27 with 11 miles of queues
Two out of three lanes are closed for emergency road surface repairs, leading to 11 miles of congestion, as drivers have been asked to delay their journeys
Motorists planning to use the M25 this morning have been urged to delay their journeys as two out of three lanes are currently closed.
The closure is at junction 27 and is causing delays of over an hour and a half on the M25 anti-clockwise in Essex. National Highways says there are 11 miles of congestion on approach, with no estimated time for when the lanes could reopen.
National Highways said this is due to emergency road surface repairs. A statement reads: "As a result of these works, the link road from the M11 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise at J27 is also closed.
"If this impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time as is 11 miles of congestion on approach to the lane closures. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
Traffic is still not moving despite National Highways previously stating normal travel conditions were expected between 9am and 9.15am.
The agency's live traffic map now states normal traffic conditions could return around 10am.
The closures at the junction of the M25 with M11 were first put in place around 8pm last night.
At the time, National Highways said this was due to an infrastructure defect and that the road surface required "immediate repair".
The link road remained closed overnight as repairs took place.
According to National Highways, normal traffic conditions are now expected between 9am and 9.15am.
One-and-a-half-hour delays remain, however, with traffic "not moving", says the government agency.
The full statement from National Highways reads: "There are delays of over an hour and a half on the M25 anti-clockwise in Essex. This is due to emergency road surface repairs which have closed lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) within J27.
"As a result of these works, the link road from the M11 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise at J27 is also closed.
"Contractors have been on site overnight carrying out repairs, however an additional defect has been discovered this morning and as such, the lane closures remain in place to allow for further repairs to take place.
"There is not yet an estimated time for the works to be complete.
"If this impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time as is 11 miles of congestion on approach to the lane closures. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
The map below shows the location of the closures on the M25 at junction 27, along with the 11 miles of congestion currently present on approach.
National Highways has asked drivers to delay their journeys if possible.
Good morning and thank you for joining our live coverage of the M25 congestion this morning.
The lanes currently affected by emergency road surface repairs are lanes one and two of three within junction 27.
These are closed and there is no estimate for how long the repairs will take, National Highways said.
