Popular pasta urgently recalled over 'health risk' — check now Certain customers have been warned not to eat the product A popular type of pasta has been pulled from shelves after a "health risk" was discovered. The product poses a danger to some customers, who have been told not to eat it. Minton & Donello Organic White Orzo contains wheat (gluten), which is not mentioned on its label or in its ingredient list. The packet also labels the product as "Orzo White Rice", but orzo is a form of pasta. As a result, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an allergy alert. It said: "This product contains wheat making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease." A point-of-sale notice has been issued and Dundeis UK has contacted relevant allergy support organisations so members are aware of the recall. The FSA added: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund." The recall is for the 500g pack size with batch codes 78850, 78850 and 78850. Best before dates include January 31, May 2 and May 24, 2027. Minton & Donello products are available to buy from Tesco, Ocado, Amazon and Planet Organic. The recall is for England and Wales only. Orzo, which is also known as risoni, is a form of short-cut pasta shaped like a grain of rice and can be cooked in stews, salads and one-pots. Dundeis UK Ltd issued its own recall notice that said: "Dundeis UK Ltd is recalling batches of Organic Orzo due to a labelling error and missing allergen labelling. "Organic orzo has been labelled as Orzo White Rice. Additional to this, the product contains wheat (gluten), which is missing on the packaging ingredient declaration. "Therefore, the product is a potential health risk for consumers with an allergy or sensitivity to wheat or gluten. Please do not consume the product. Please return the product for a full refund. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused." For anyone needing further information, contact [email protected] or call +44 1782366715. Food products are either withdrawn, where they get taken off the shelves, or recalled, where customers are asked to return the product. This happens if there is a risk to consumers due to allergy labelling or any other food risk.
