Family 'sleeping in cars' to remain close to daughter after horror dog attack Seven-year-old Patricia has been left with severe injuries to her scalp and after being attacked by a pack of dogs in California A family have revealed they are sleeping in their cars to remain close to their daughter after she was attacked by a pack of dogs in California. The seven-year-old girl, identified by her family as Patricia, was attacked in the Corning area of Tehama County on June 27, suffering significant injuries to her scalp and legs, the Tehama County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. An online fundraiser launched by her grandma, Monica Edmiston, said Patricia was initially in a critical condition following the "horrific" attack, saying the "dogs ripped her scalp off and left her with numerous wounds all over her body". Patricia was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to an out-of-area trauma centre for advanced medical treatment, the sheriff's office said. The fundraiser said she underwent emergency surgery at UC Davis Medical Center. On June 29, the fundraiser said: "Patricia is doing so much better. She is still really scared but thank God she is a strong little girl. She has a long road of recovery ahead." An update on Wednesday (July 1) said Patricia would be returning home on Thursday (July 2). On behalf of the family, the grandma thanked everyone for their prayers, thoughts and donations, saying: "The love the town of Corning showed was overwhelming." The fundraiser raised more than $4,100. Ms Edmiston earlier said she set up the fundraiser as her Patricia's dad and brothers were sleeping in their car in Sacramento to remain close to Patricia and need help to cover basic necessities like gas and food. The Corning Union Elementary School District shared a message of support on Facebook, identifying Patricia as one of its students and wishing her a speedy recovery. The sheriff's office said six dogs believed to be involved in the incident were seized as evidence and transported to the Tehama County Animal Shelter. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
