Child, 2, dies after being 'left in hot car by babysitter' during 38C heatwave A child, aged two, was reportedly found in a car outside a daycare centre and rushed to hospital but sadly did not survive after being left inside during 38C heat in Florida A toddler has died after being left in a car in Florida amid soaring temperatures while in the care of a babysitter. The two-year-old child was reportedly found by the dad in a car outside a daycare centre and rushed to hospital, but sadly did not survive. It is the second time in less than a week that a child has died in the Broward County area after being left in a car in hot weather. Hallandale Beach Police Department is investigating the incident, which took place last Sunday during the Fourth of July holiday weekend where temperatures in the area would have reached around 38C. It is understood that officers were called to the hospital at around 1.35pm after being told that the child had been left inside the vehicle on Northwest 7th Avenue. No details have been given so far about how the child came to be left in the car or if any charges are to be brought. “Hallandale Beach Police Department officers responded to a nearby hospital following a report involving a two-year-old child who had been left inside a vehicle while in the care of a babysitter at a residence in the 900 block of NW 7th Ave,” read a police statement, reported the People. “The child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.” The force said the case is “active and ongoing investigation” and officers “continue to gather and review evidence, and no additional details are available for release at this time.” It added: “This is a heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, and everyone affected by this tragedy." Hallandale Beach Police Chief Michel Michel has reminded parents and childminders “to make it a habit to always check the back seat before locking your vehicle.” He said: “A simple routine, such as placing your phone, purse, or another essential item in the back seat, can serve as a reminder and help prevent an unimaginable loss. One last look can save a child’s life.” Tragically, the incident happened less than 20 miles away from where a similar incident occurred last month. A dad left his toddler in a car outside of a Plantation daycare centre on June 29, after he mistakenly thought he had dropped the boy off at the nursery. He continued on to work and it was at the end of the day when he went to pick the child up that he realised what had happened. A separate investigation into the death of the child is ongoing.
