Brits are set to bake this week as temperatures in parts of the UK surpass 30°C once again in what has been deemed the third heatwave to face the country this year alone. To counter that stuffy feeling in homes, Argos is selling the new Vortex Blade Air Cooler online for £85, with in-store collection or home delivery available across the UK.
Describing the unit online, Argos said: "Cool the room your way with this two-in-one Bush Air Cooler and Humidifier. Using water cooling technology, it turns warm air into a fresher, more comfortable breeze.
"Pick from three speeds and three easy modes, with triple air inlets and a Vortex fan blade driving a punchy 6.5m/s airflow for fast, feel-good cooling. Add the reusable ice packs for an extra chill.
"The automatic swing feature spreads cool air far and wide, with alerts when the removable water tank needs topping up. Ideal for rooms up to 25m, it runs at sound levels up to 63dB and includes an eight-hour timer, remote control, and an autodry function to dry cooling pads before storage."
Similar devices are available elsewhere for under £100, such as the Tristar White Air Cooler (£68) from Wickes or the Swan Oatmeal 5L Nordic Air Cooler (£89) from Asda. Amazon also has a variety of options, including the BUENICOO Three-in-One Evaporative Air Cooler (£88.22, down from £94).
But the majority of shoppers are pleased with their summer investment from Argos. One reviewer said: "Great cooler and good power. Not very loud either. It's really been a saviour in this weather!"
Another put: "Works as intended and easy to use. At the higher fan speeds, it's quite noisy, but the lowest speed was all we needed to get cool air heading in our direction. Good value for money."
Someone else wrote: "Really useful and silent on the low settings and really strong fan settings for multiroom cooling. Has wheels for easy moving as well. A fourth person said in their review: "Bought this for working from home in this heatwave. It is not freezing cold, but it helped me work comfortably in the heat today!"
But, not everyone was thrilled with the results of this £85 cooling gadget. There was one person, who gave a two-star review, who said: "It is just a strong fan. It does not cool the room as its description states. Yes, the air that is blown is cool, but you have to stand/sit directly in front of it to feel any benefit."
Another claims: "I could not sleep with it next to me. Felt like I was sleeping next to a jumbo jet!" However, most were happy with the product.
A five-star verdict read: "Just bought it a few days ago and it's been on constantly. Nice cool air when ice packs are fresh, but loses that when they melt. Still a good fan though."
