Man faces court over alleged Goldfields murder attempt

Somerville man Shane Brendan Wesley, 42, faced court on Wednesday after being charged with attempted murder. Police say he stabbed a woman on Kalgoorlie's main street multiple times with a knife early on Monday morning. What's next? Mr Wesley has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance. A man has faced court over the attempted murder of a woman he allegedly stabbed while dealing drugs in Western Australia's Goldfields. Shane Brendan Wesley faced Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with the Monday-morning confrontation that left a woman seriously injured. Police allege the 42-year-old approached the woman on Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie around 3:30am on Monday, and stabbed her multiple times with a knife. It is also alleged he was involved in the sale and supply of illicit drugs prior to the incident. The woman was taken to Kalgoorlie Health Campus with critical injuries and underwent emergency surgery. The WA Country Health Service said she remained in a stable condition and was continuing to recover in hospital. Police say both parties are known to each other, but have not disclosed their relationship. Mr Wesley appeared in court wearing a black Air Jordan T-shirt and black shorts after spending the night in custody. He did not enter pleas to six charges, which also included aggravated unlawful assault, breaching protective bail conditions and possession of methylamphetamine and cannabis. He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Perth's Stirling Garden's Magistrates Court on the attempted murder charge and offer to sell or supply on August 19. Mr Wesley is also scheduled to appear in Kalgoorlie on the minor charges on August 10.
