Man found guilty of murder after previously killing sister in shooting accident Dublin’s Central Criminal Court found Derek Boyd of Scribblestown Place, Finglas, Dublin guilty of the murder of Mark Carroll on June 9, 2024 A man has been found guilty of stabbing a man to death while he was already serving a suspended sentence for the manslaughter of his sister. Derek Boyd fatally stabbed another man in the chest at his north Dublin home while serving the suspended part of his sentence for the manslaughter of his sister. Dublin’s Central Criminal Court found Boyd guilty of murder this afternoon. The two men and their partners had been drinking together at Boyd’s home when a late-night row broke out. In the following altercation Mr Carroll suffered three stab wounds which killed him. Prosecuting Counsel Sean Guerin said Boyd had run away to the UK after the attack. However his defence said this did not mean he was guilty of murder but because the fact he was already serving a suspended sentence meant he would go back to prison. The 31-year-old, of Scribblestown Place, Finglas in north-west Dublin had pleaded not guilty to murdering Mark Carroll, 34, at his home on June 9, 2024. He was also charged with assaulting the deceased man’s girlfriend, Megan Rock on the same occasion, causing her harm. Boyd also pleaded not guilty to this charge. Boyd's girlfriend Chantelle Harcourt, 34, stood accused of impeding her partner's prosecution, Dublin Live reports. Ms Harcourt, of Primrose Grove, Darndale in Dublin 17 had pleaded not guilty on the same date at Blanchardstown Garda Station, in circumstances where another person had committed an arrestable offence, namely murder, and knowing or believing that person to be guilty of that offence or of some other arrestable offence, did without reasonable excuse an act with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of the said person. The 11 jurors returned today unable to reach a verdict on Boyd’s alleged assault on Megan Rock or Harcourt’s alleged charge of assisting an offender. Boyd will be sentenced next Tuesday to the mandatory sentence of life in prison.
