Sources: Mets trade lefty reliever Minter to Twins

The last-place New York Mets, in what could be the first of multiple deals ahead of the trade deadline, have sent left-handed relief pitcher A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins for two prospects, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Thursday. In return, the Mets received infielder Billy Amick and infielder Bruin Agbayani -- the son of former longtime Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani. Minter, 32, is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched this season -- his second with the Mets. He spent his first eight seasons with the Atlanta Braves and has a career 25-30 mark with a 3.18 ERA. The Twins are in third place in the American League Central, three games behind the Chicago White Sox and one game behind the Cleveland Guardians. The wild-card race puts them even closer to postseason contention, one game behind the Guardians for the third and final spot. The MLB trade deadline is 6 p.m. ET Monday.
