The GFS weather model shows temperatures possibly rising above 30C on Sunday this week, hitting 32C in southern and eastern parts of England, and rising to 30-31C in central areas. Monday could then bring sizzling highs of 36C to western England and southern-central areas, the data suggests, with the Midlands hitting 35C, Wales reaching 34C, and areas as far north as Yorkshire seeing potential 32C highs. Temperatures may reach 36C again on Tuesday, although this time in East Anglia. The GFS weather model shows maximum possible temperatures at 33C in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, 34C in the Midlands and south-east, and 30C in Wales on Tuesday next week. Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to be a fair bit cooler, with maximum possible temperatures shown in the mid-20s or lower throughout next week. In contrast, the GFS model data shows maximum possible temperatures hitting at least 30C in England every day next week until Sunday. Highs of 34C could come in the south on Wednesday, with 33C on Thursday and 30-31C on Friday and Saturday. Temperature anomaly maps for next week show England and Wales shaded in areas of dark red. This indicates where temperatures are expected to rise well above the seasonal average. In total, the data suggests 10 counties may see temperatures reach 36C. They are all in England. However, it does add: “Perhaps without the exceptional heat we have seen in recent weeks.” We could also see some “thundery interludes” in places. The Met Office adds: “Rather changeable to begin this period, with some rain or showers at times, but also the likelihood of some decent drier interludes too, especially in the south. “Towards mid August, high pressure may become rather more dominant towards the north or northwest of the UK, with lower pressure at times further to the south or east. “This means there is a greater chance of frontal systems or thundery interludes to affect southern and eastern areas, certainly in comparison to recent weeks, though rainfall amounts could be quite variable with some areas seeing relatively little.”
