Police hunt pair over 'senseless' machete attack on teenager

Police are looking for two males who attacked a teenager with machetes in Melbourne's east in June. The boy spent four days in hospital following the attack in Wantirna on June 20. The offenders stole the boy's mobile phone and e-bike, valued at $10,000. A boy was attacked with machetes by two offenders in Melbourne's east who stole his e-bike in an incident police described as "senseless". Victoria Police said the boy, who was 17 at the time of the attack in Wantirna in June, was viciously stabbed and taken to hospital. The incident happened at JW Manson Reserve in Wantirna about 6:15pm on June 20. Police said the boy was approached by two unidentified males who attacked him without warning, pushing him off his bike. As the boy tried to run away, he was hit with a machete, which caused a deep wound to his shoulder. He was able to flee to nearby Selkirk Avenue, where a passer-by called Triple Zero (000). The boy, who has since turned 18, suffered at least three wounds from the attack and spent four days in hospital. The thieves made off with his mobile phone and e-bike, valued at $10,000. Detective Acting Inspector Troy Andrews urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward. "This unprovoked and senseless attack on the victim is extremely concerning and completely unacceptable," he said. "Investigators have been working tirelessly in relation to finding those involved and to hold them to account for their actions. "I want to assure the Knox community that police are patrolling the community 24/7, with a sustained presence from local units and the Neighbourhood Policing Unit." Police have released CCTV images of the alleged attackers as well as an image of the stolen e-bike. The bike was a Surron Ultra Bee HP.
