After 5th-grader Colton refused to take the picture on Monday morning, Keenesburg mom Amanda Stolz says that she called in a local officer named Jack. On Facebook, she revealed that Colton “may or may not have ended up in handcuffs before school.” “Officer Jack had to step in and inform him that refusing your mom a first-day-of-school picture is, in fact, against the law,” she joked. Stolz shared images of the ‘arrest’ on social media, including the moment that Jack cuffed a laughing Colton. She also shared a photograph of the cop putting Colton into the cop car. In one image, Jack even posed with the car while Colton grinned from the backseat. Stolz told CBS Colorado that it was “awesome that Officer Jack took it serious.” “We were like, 'Well, I guess we have you back-to-school pictures now, don't we?’” she said. In her Facebook post, Stolz added that she was thankful for the work that Keenesburg Police officers do in the local community. “Moments like this are something these kids will remember, and I love seeing our officers taking the time to joke around, connect with them, and make their morning a little more fun,” she added. But while the police were happy to participate in this case, not every social media joke goes down so well with authorities. Last year, cops in Michigan warned families about the ‘A.I. Homeless Man prank’, which saw fake images of vagrants men generated inside homes to scare family or roommates. West Bloomfield Police Department hit out at the trend in a social media post, warning that while it may seem like a joke it could can cause panic, lead to dangerous or violent reactions and can waste emergency resources. “Please talk to your kids about the real consequences of these trends,” the department said. “What seems funny online could have serious emotional and or legal consequences."
