Transportation Air India Orders One-Off Drug Test for Its Over 5,000 Pilots Air India Group will screen its more than 5,000 pilots for psychoactive substances in an unprecedented one-time action, according to an internal email, after a captain allegedly tested positive for illegal drugs following the mid-air plunge of its Phuket-Delhi flight. The mandatory testing covers “any substances or medications that are not permitted under prevailing regulations,” the flag carrier informed pilots in the email seen by Bloomberg News. The directive, effective Aug. 13, applies to pilots across Air India and no-frills Air India Express fleets, it said.
