West Midlands Fire and Rescue were called to the Racecourse Lane area of Stourbridge at around 1.30pm on Thursday. It is believed the fire spread from grassland to buildings, forcing people to flee for their lives. Tom Barnett, head green keeper at Stourbridge Golf Course, told the Mirror: “We had to run for it at one point... It was like a war film with ash and smoke and the intense heat. The speed of the flames were like a tidal wave.” A total of 54 people have been treated by paramedics, including 19 who were admitted to hospital, after wildfires broke out across the West Midlands yesterday, the region’s ambulance service said.
