The National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People has sent an open letter to the Queensland government asking it to rethink its Youth Justice (Circuit Breaker) legislation. Commissioner Sue-Anne Hunter said in her letter those who voted for the bill to be passed would be supporting a model which could hide the abuse of children and would unfairly target First Nations youth. The bill remains before parliament and is yet to be voted on.
