A week after her first historic spacewalk, French astronaut Sophie Adenot will venture outside the International Space Station (ISS) again on Tuesday as part of her mission.
As part of her first mission to the ISS, 44-year-old French astronaut Sophie Adenot spent the weekend preparing for her second spacewalk, according to a video posted on her Instagram account on Sunday. The video showed her trying on her spacesuit and checking equipment alongside crewmate, American astronaut, Anil Menon.
The pair are part of a team of four taking part in a nine-month-long mission and today's planned extravehicular activity (EVA) aims to replace one of the station's communication antenna. The replacelment work is scheduled to begin at 12:35 GMT (14:35 Paris time) and is expected to last approximately six and a half hours.
Adenot became the first French woman to perform an EVA – 400 kilometres above Earth – on August 18. Before her, only four French people had ventured beyond Earth's atmosphere.
"You could probably hear it in my voice over the radio, but I A-D-O-R-E-D working in the vacuum of space. It is a true adventure within an adventure – made all the more beautiful because it is experienced as a team," Sophie Adenot wrote on social media.
"Yeah, what a day," Adenot said after the space walk. "My deepest gratitude goes to everyone who made this possible, pioneers who came before us, but also the incredible teams working behind the scenes today."
An engineer by training and a former test pilot, Adenot became the second Frenchwoman in history to fly into space in February, after Claudie Haigneré.
The last French person to walk in space was Thomas Pesquet, who did so six times over two stays aboard the ISS.
